Each year on the last weekend in September, alpaca farms across the nation open their gates to consumers in celebration of National Alpaca Farm Days.

North Carolina’s own Apple Hill Farm in Banner Elk, Alpaca Dreams in Louisburg and Perry Farm Alpacas in Hillsborough will join in the festivities, inviting visitors to tour their farms, learn about alpacas and even meet a few of the fleecy animals.

Alpacas are raised largely for their soft, luxurious fleece, which is used to make clothes, blankets and more. The animals are often confused with llamas, but they’re very different, though both are members of the camel family.

To plan your trip to one of the farms above during the Alpaca Farm Days event Sept. 24-25, or to explore all of North Carolina’s fall agritourism activities, visit visitncfarms.com.
